It’s looking increasingly likely Lionel Messi will return to Barcelona this summer, despite PSG reportedly planning to offer the veteran a new contract. The Argentina international’s existing deal in France expires at the end of the season but, with his former club getting their finances together, a Hollywood homecoming may take place. But when it became apparent the La Liga giants couldn’t keep hold of their talisman, the 35-year-old had no choice but to leave – with PSG then chosen as his next destination. But Messi, 35, has missed out on the 2022 award following his switch from Barcelona to the French capital. A change in the format has also worked against the Argentine superstar with the Ballon d’Or no longer acknowledging the best player over a calendar year. After leaving Barcelona in the summer of 2021, Messi was unable to stamp his genius on a PSG team desperate for a Champions League title. 



Argentina established a two-goal lead inside ten minutes against the Colombians thanks to the goals from new Tottenham Hotspur recruit Cristian Romero and Leandro Paredes before the hosts fought back with two second half goals.
