It’s looking increasingly likely Lionel Messi will return to Barcelona this summer, despite PSG reportedly planning to offer the veteran a new contract. The Argentina international’s existing deal in France expires at the end of the season but, with his former club getting their finances together, a Hollywood homecoming may take place. Should that happen, it’ll be interesting to see what number he sports on his back…
Seven-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi paid a high price for an underwhelming first season with Paris Saint-Germain when he was left off the 30-strong list for this year’s coveted football award. Lucy Bronze, who was runner-up in 2019, is one of three members of England’s Euro-winning squad to be short-listed for the women’s award. Messi, who won the title last year, had been an ever-present amongst the nominations since 2006 and a regular feature in the top three since 2007 with the exception of 2018.
But Messi, 35, has missed out on the 2022 award following his switch from Barcelona to the French capital. A change in the format has also worked against the Argentine superstar with the Ballon d’Or no longer acknowledging the best player over a calendar year. Premier League defenders are in for sleepless nights after defending champions Manchester City signed Norwegian international ErlingHaaland whose record at the age of 21 is unmatched in the history of football. The new Manchester City player has a better goals-per-game record than Paris Saint Germain (PSG) talisman Lionel Messi, Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero, Manchester United attacker Cristiano Ronaldo and others.
English champions Manchester City made a big transfer coup with signing of Haaland especially on the financial end. The Citizens paid €60m (£51m) to sign the Norwegian attacker from German team Borussia Dortmund. Haaland turns 22 next month and he has a record of 135 goals in 182 club appearances. He has 0.74 goals-per-game record, which is better than the 0.47 goals-per-game record for Lionel Messi at the age of 21 and 0.21 goals-per-game record for Cristiano Ronaldo at the age of 21. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have 12 Ballond’or awards between them. Messi has won the award seven times, while Ronaldo has won the award five times. PSG attacker Messi scored 80 goals in 179 games at the age of 21, while Manchester United talisman Ronaldo had a record of 55 goals in 233 games at the age of 21.

David Beckham’s Inter Miami are reportedly interested in signing Barcelona icons Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez in the near future. Beckham has previously expressed a desire to bring the biggest names in football to the US club, which started competing in the MLS in 2020. Miami have already signed the likes of Blaise Matuidi, Gonzalo Higuain, Ryan Shawcross, Kieran Gibbs and DeAndre Yedlin.
Despite their previous acquisitions, Beckham’s side have failed to challenge for the MLS title so far. They’re currently 10th in the Eastern Conference under the management of former Manchester United ace Phil Neville, nine points behind leaders Philadelphia.

Some years ago, this question may not even have been allowed to come out of the mouth of any football fan even if it pops up as a random thought. However, with how fast-paced the changes in football have proven to become over the last couple of years, it is looking as though there’s nothing that can be termed “impossible”. For instance, it would have been very difficult to predict that Lionel Messi would leave Barcelona and sign for Paris Saint-Germain but of course, we have seen that happen already even though some people are still finding it hard to embrace that reality.
Also, it was always looking like Cristiano Ronaldo would end his career at Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid given how he was idolized by the club’s fans and of course, the several achievements he earned while playing for the Los Blancos. But we have seen him leave Madrid as well and although he now plays for the club where he established himself as a superstar, Manchester United, he already had a stint with Italian Serie A giants Juventus before making the homecoming to Old Trafford last summer.

Spanish La Liga leaders Real Madrid are planning a new deal for Luka Modric according to the latest reports in the media. Respected Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed last week that Real Madrid want to offer the veteran Croatian international a new deal that will see him stay with the 13-time European champions until the summer of 2023.
Luka Modric was given a one-year deal to cover for this season and he has around six months left on the said deal. His performances in a Real Madrid shirt has been sensational this season and that has played a big part in the decision to hand him a new deal amidst the transfer rumours linking him with a return back to the Premier League.

Paris Saint Germain (PSG) superstar Lionel Messi was in sensational form as Argentina swept away Bolivia to take another step towards qualification for next year’s FIFA World Cup tournament in Qatar. Lionel Messi was responsible for all the three goals as Argentina beat Bolivia 3-0 at home to make it two successive wins in the South American qualifiers for Qatar 2022.
Messi and Argentina have won two straight games in the qualifiers for the World Cup tournament next year since the late collapse against hosts Colombia in June.

Spanish La Liga giants Barcelona are currently in a financial crisis and they have a lot of work to do in order to get out of the situation they are in presently. The Blaugrana are, as of the moment, unable to register Lionel Messi as their player for the coming La Liga season because the wage structure of the league restricts them from spending as much as they will be doing if the player signs another contract at the club. There has been a few reasons for the delay in Messi signing a new Barcelona contract and while one of them is due to the fact that he is currently away on international duty with his country Argentina, the other one is due to his wage demands.
Messi, before officially becoming a free agent on the 30th of June after his previous contract expired, earned over a million pounds per week but that was before Barca signed Sergio Agüero and Memphis Depay this summer. The Catalan giants completed the signing of former Manchester City striker Agüero and ex-Lyon attacker Depay as free agents this summer but even though they completed the signings without paying any transfer fee, they would still have to pay their wages, and that’s where there’s a problem.

Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappé has revealed that it is very impossible to match the achievements of football’s two greatest players Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in a recent interview. Mbappé, alongside a couple of other top young stars in the world of football, has been linked as the likely players who would have an outstanding career and come close to matching a couple of records set by Ronaldo and Messi in their illustrious careers. However, France international star Mbappé has revealed that it’s something impossible to happen.
Speaking in a recent interview, when asked if he thinks he is capable of going down in history as a footballer that could either match, surpass, or come close to Ronaldo and Messi’s career records, Mbappé said that the two legends have achieved so much in football judging by their career numbers and added that it is an impossible task to come close to any of those records.

As a football fan, one of the debates you would have to engage yourself in at some point is the Ronaldo vs Messi debate. The debate has gone on for several years and it’s not looking like it will stop anytime soon. Both players have dominated the game in the last decade and have recorded major achievements that have seen them cement their names in the history of the game.
Higuain has now joined the bandwagon of everyone that has ever engaged in such debate, with the former Argentina international striker claiming that he is one of the few people in the best position to have a clear understanding and analysis of the two stars.
