Barcelona manager Luis Enrique has dismissed claims that the Spanish league title race may be over for the Catalan club after they fell 4 points behind table leaders Real Madrid going into the winter break.
Madrid were trailing Barcelona at the start of the season, but Luis Enrique’s team has been inconsistent since the 3-1 defeat against Real Madrid in the first El Clasico of the season. The latest dropped points came in the 0-0 draw against Getafe. Messi has been in imperious form of late after having scored three hat-tricks in his last six matches.
Even though he was the best player on the pitch, he was unable to help Barcelona get that vital breakthrough. Unsurprisingly, the Argentine superstar came the closest to open the scoring after hitting the crossbar with his brilliant freekick. As expected, Barcelona dominated possession and were able to create the better of opportunities during the 90 minutes. These dropped points represent a huge setback for the Catalan club given that they will have to live with it for the next few weeks, as the Spanish league goes into the winter break.Enrique has been constantly changing his team in the recent matches. Neymar was the high-profile player to be unavailable against Getafe.
“It’s different when the team is fresh. Also, we did not take advantage of the chances we had.We were much better than the opponent. We had chances despite the difficulties that Getafe caused us. Except for a few exceptions, we had everything under control. Plus, there are still many games left in La Liga. We were four points up and now we are four points down. I need to watch the game again but I saw plenty of attacks, almost all on the left side, and we had many chances,” said Enrique.
