A well-taken goal against Eibar last time out helped legendary forward Lionel Messi reach another major landmark in his career, and he has paid tribute to his teammates for his latest achievement.

The Barcelona forward was full of praise for his teammates in the aftermath of the game against Eibar at the Nou Camp which saw him register his 400th La Liga goal.

The miniature forward is the all-time leading goal scorer in La Liga, surpassing TelmoZarra’s Athletic Bilbao record of 251 goals in November 2014. The Bilbao legend held this record for over 59 years.

The landmark goal doubled Barcelona’s lead after Suarez had handed them an early goal, producing a clinical finish with his left foot, with such technique we have become used to seeing of the Argentine over the years.

The 31 year old is now 89 goals ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo, who left for Juventus in 2018, in all-time La Liga goal scoring charts. I can’t see anyone blitzing Lionel Messi’s La Liga goal records anytime soon.

Already registered 17 goals this season, the player is closing in on another Pichichi award this season after receiving the award last year as well as the European Golden Shoe ahead of Mohamed Salah and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Speaking on his latest milestone, Messi told Mundo Deportivo, “I’m really happy to have reached 400 goals in this league and I really hope I can get some more”.

I don’t like to focus much on the records or numbers. I’ll rather focus on the day to day. For me, it’s more than just scoring goals as I approach every game as a challenge for me and my team to get the three points”.

Lionel Messi is widely regarded to as the Greatest Of All Time and is often called the GOAT by fans and the media alike.
