The player has just signed a new contract with Barcelona that will make him the most expensive player having played for the club.
Indeed he has signed a three year extension on his current contract and will see him leave the club when he is 34 years old.
Lionel Messi said that he will be preparing himself well for the new season and that the objective of the team will be to regain the Spanish title which they have lost to Real Madrid. He believes that it is also important that Barcelona challenge for the Champions League and that the players are ready to give their best.

He said that the coming season would be an exciting one especially with the World Cup coming just after. He said that it is important that Argentina makes it through the qualification as they have a good chance of performing there. He admitted that things have not been easy during recent months, but he feels that things are becoming better and that the national team is beginning to play collectively.
Lionel Messi believes that the team can perform well in Russia, but they will first need to continue improving so as to make it through the qualifications.
He said that he would be training hard so as to get back in shape for the start of the new season.
