MESSI MIGHT NOT PLAY IN RUSSIA 2018

Argentina star man Lionel Messi might not appear at the forthcoming World Cup next year in Russia, going by the results the team is posting.

A world Cup without the Barcelona star can be imagined as the South American side continually fall short of the magic expected of them, even with the diminutive magician featuring.

Other top stars like Angel di Maria, Sergio Aguero, Gonzalo Higuain and the rest might also sit out the world event in the summer of 2018. They have another chance against Venezuela when both sides clash on their ground in Buenos Aires on Tuesday.

The team would likely have to go to the playoffs where they would compete against the Oceania winner New Zealand. With the form of the Kiwis, the Copa America finalists should not expect a walk in the park. Burnley star Chris Wood is in top form and he recently netted a hat trick. The Kiwis would be desperate to frustrate and possibly complete the demystification of Lionel Messi and the Argentinean side. Continue reading “MESSI MIGHT NOT PLAY IN RUSSIA 2018”

Argentina Will Play Lionel Messi If Fit, ConfirmsBauza

The player ended the 1-0 win over Athletic Bilbao on Sunday with a little discomfort.

It was later learnt that his left hamstring had been giving him problems and it was advised that the problem may increase if he takes part in the World Cup qualifiers. After having just convinced him to return to the national team, managerBauza was facing a tight situation with regard to the availability of the player. He has dismissed suggestions that Barcelona have requested him to leave out Messi for the upcoming game against Uruguay and Venezuela. Messi understands why he has been left out of the Olympic team

Argentina national coach Gerardo Martino stated that Lionel Messi understands why he has been left out of the Olympic team.

He said that he had taken the decision to protect Messi from being burned out.

Indeed, Lionel Messi will have to participate in the Copa America first with the national team. Martino said that he felt that Messi will need a break after a long season in Europe and that it would have been insane to make him play in two major tournaments. For him, Argentina can manage without Messi in the Olympics but not in Copa America.

He said that things would have been different if there were no Copa America this year but with the current schedule it is preferable for Messi to avoid playing in the Olympics.

He compared the situation to Brazil where they have taken the decision to play Neymar only in the Olympics instead of the Copa America. Martino said that he will strengthen the Olympics team in defence where he felt that there is a need.

Martino believes that Argentina will have to make some compromises in both tournaments. Clubs will be unwilling for their players to participate in both competitions and it is important that he find a right balance for the teams. He believes that taking part in the Copa America will provide enough time for Messi to recover and to participate in his club’s pre-season training camp.
